GET TO KNOW ME

“Your journey has molded you for your greater good, and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don't think you've lost time. There is no short-cutting to life. It took each and every situation you have encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time.”   ― Asha Tyson

In my work as a therapist, I highly believe in meeting each individual where they are at any given moment. If you are angry, you can be angry. If you are hurting and grieving, you are allowed to cry, or to not cry. I believe that healing comes from forgiveness in all forms, and primarily, forgiveness towards ourselves. I work with people by establishing a safe and comforting environment where clients can feel free to express whatever it is that they may be struggling with. I offer a non-judgmental view towards examining the underlying problems, thoughts, beliefs, or stuck feelings my clients may be holding onto.

As a therapist, I believe my best asset, despite any certifications or specializations I may hold, comes from my authenticity, and the appreciation, and admiration I hold for my clients every step of the way. I am a very active and engaged therapist, and believe the most effective therapy is a true collaboration between therapist and client. I work from an attachment lens, bringing in cognitive behavioral techniques, expressive arts therapies, and family systems orientations depending on the needs of each unique client. I am also trained in the Gottman method for couples therapy and in drama therapy.

I specialize in working with adolescents, individual adults and young adults, families, and couples, in the areas of depression/anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, self-esteem , grief and loss and the LGBTQ community. If my clients feel willing and able, I may, at times, implement drama therapy and expressive arts techniques into the work we do together. I have found that it can sometimes be a relief to work in non-verbal, embodied ways when the “right words” won’t come. Feelings are visceral, and it can be difficult to force ourselves to describe and explain that, which, can sometimes feel unexplainable.
